The Learning Tour officially kicks off at 5pm on the 20 September in San Diego at the Holiday Inn Bayside Hotel 4875 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92106, USA. 

San Diego - 20 - 22 September

Sunday 20 

Sun 20th Sept Check-in and Official Dinner - All participants to check-in for accommodation as well as gather at Holiday Inn Bayside - San Diego. It is essential that we meet at 5pm in the foyer to be transferred to dinner for a meet, greet and to ignite the learning tour!

Official Dinner will be at the Casa De Reyes  Mexican Cantina in the Old Town Historic Park San Diego

Mon 21 - Tues 22 - High Tech High (2 Days - of Structured Program)


Mon 21st 

Meet in Foyer at 8.15am to board Bus to go to High Tech High Chula Vista (1945 Discovery Falls Dr, Chula Vista, CA 91915, USA). We return to San Diego at approximately 4pm.

 

Monday Evening - Free time: informal group get togethers across San Diego City - options will be shared. Flexible Dinner at your choice/expense - Some nice suggestions for groups will be suggested.

Tuesday 22nd 

Meet in Foyer at 8.15am to walk to High Tech High, Point Loma San Diego (Approximately 15 mins). The Day Ends at about 5.00pm. (includes non-structured roaming time of HTH from 3pm-4.30pm) Tour Dinner to follow at 6:45pm.

High Tech High has become world renowned for the development of  contemporary schools which focus on student and staff growth in ways in which traditional schooling does not address. As highlighted in the award winning documentary "Most Likely to Succeed" , Larry Rosenstock (CEO and co-founder of HTH) answered the call from government and corporate entities to produce individuals who are 21c ready. Student Learning through authentic project based work, assessment supported by community involvement, prime focus on the development of student soft essential skills, physical settings unlike traditional schooling and a strong culture of trust with innovation all work harmoniously to create High Tech High.

San Diego, Stanford & Santa Cruz

Wednesday 23rd 

Morning San Diego Airport - short flight to San Jose flight AS 1051 - then transfer to Stanford University DSchool Stanford, - Tour, Workshop and  Time with Prof Carol Dweck and Prof Jo Boaler. Evening: Free time and Dinner of your choice/expense.

Depart San Diego

Meet in Foyer to leave at 5.45am to transport to Airport (please checkout beforehand - only pay for any extras mini-bar etc) Flight AS 1051 From San Diego to San Jose. Transfer at 9am from San Jose Airport to Stanford University

The birthplace of Design Thinking  d.school is a hub for innovators at Stanford. World renowned for highly creative, innovative thinking supported by innovative spaces and resources, students and faculty in engineering, medicine, business, law, the humanities, sciences, and education find their way here to take on the world’s messy problems transformative learning experiences together. Along the way, these students develop a process for producing creative solutions to even the most complex challenges they tackle.

10.15am - Arrive Stanford University. We will tour dSchool

11.00am - Design Thinking Workshop

1.00 pm - Time to eat, engage at the book store and wander through Stanfrod University

3.15pm - Meeting with Prof Carol Dweck and Prof Jo Boaler - World Renowned Expert and Psychologist in Growth Mindset whose work is being used across the world in universities, education and industries and Prof Jo Boaler Prof in Mathematics and world renowned for contemporary approaches to mathematics education & named by the BBC as "one of the 8 people whose ideas are challenging the future of education.” will be sort for a roundtable meeting and discussion.  (Psychology Building (Jordan Hall))

4.45 pm - Depart Stanford University for Santa Cruz - Hotel

5.45pm - Arrival at Marriott Fairfield inn Suites 1255 41st Ave, Capitola, CA 95010, USA

Monte Vista Christian School in the midst of Redwood forests near Santa Cruz was extremely enriching during a recent quick visit. This large Christian School is on a journey of transformation and improvement with contemporary pedagogy, agile environments, pervasive technologies, repurposing traditional physical and virtual spaces, student voice, and community building all appearing to be supported and interwoven through their witness of the Gospel.

1.00pm - Transfer from MonteVista Christian School to Hotel at Santa Cruz (arrive about 2.00pm)

Design Thinking High School  -including rethinking conditions and constraints for schooling.

12.00 pm Lunch at cafe down the street, own expense.
